a perfect match of action and jrpg styles. its hard to explain the battle system since its pretty unique. basically its based on time while your waiting on your timer to run out so you can use your menu like any other rpg. you can go into defense mode and run around in your little area to doge attacks and collect time coins to attack quicker. you'll want to watch your enemies timers as well then decide when you'd like to go back into attack mode. Jeff and Crackhead have dedicated buttons to switch between them on the fly as well as going to what mode you want to be in. making it a fun fast paced strategic battle system you've never seen before. while in the overworld you can swap between the character's to use their unique abilities , do a little top-down platforming, solve puzzles and talk to npcs. for a bit of lore and maybe a hint or to. for the story you'll just have to play it for yourself lol no spoilers.
