Description
Alea Iacta Est!
Theme: Predictably Unpredictable
Dice were a natural fit for this theme, being completely unpredictable but knowingly so. I wanted to make a game where rolling dice was the attack, a spin on the TTRPG staple of rolling dice *for *attacks. Initially, the game revolved around different sides of the die holding different spells, and the roll determined what spell was cast, but I found that to be too restricting in how the game was played. Changing the mechanic to the spells' strength being determined by the roll (further fitting in with the TTRPG standard) felt like a more fun system that had a bit more interaction. Not knowing exactly how big the spell will be, forces you to be careful, which in turn becomes chaotic as enemies close in and your dice doesn't land exactly where you want it to be.
This being my first game jam game (and first original game period), a ton of time was spent on learning GMS more in-depth, and as such there was very little time put towards art/ui elements/menus/etc. 100% of the assets (including music) were created by myself, over the course of the game jam.
Overall I am very happy with how this turned out, and will likely expand on the idea in the future.
Thanks for the visit, and I hope you enjoy the game!
